North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership formed in November 2016 between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (and is integrated into Imperial’s governance structure) but is jointly owned by the three Trusts.
The partnership represents a new model for delivering pathology and has created a modern, efficient, innovative and sustainable service that delivers outstanding quality. It is one of the largest pathology providers in the UK.
NWLP is based on a hub and spoke structure providing pathology services from six hospital sites across London. The majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is completed at the state-of-the-art hub laboratory based at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed at NWLP spoke site laboratories at Chelsea and Westminster and Hillingdon Hospitals which operate 24/7.
The hospitals included within the NWLP partnership are: Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which comprises St Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital, and the Western Eye Hospital; Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust, which comprises Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital; and Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which comprises Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital.
